The El Greco Liquid Glass 1:1 Casting Epoxy Resin is a clear epoxy resin suitable for castings and fillings, whether in silicone molds, metal/polyester molds, or directly onto surfaces that need filling (e.g., cavities in wooden surfaces). It provides a beautiful, hard, and glossy final finish.

It can be used for castings of any thickness, in combination with other materials such as coins, wood, pebbles, etc. This self-leveling resin dries to a stunningly smooth and shiny surface that requires no sanding, polishing, or further finishing. However, if desired, it can be polished for extra shine using sandpaper and polishing compounds. Special additives in the resin help release trapped air after mixing, so in most cases there’s no need to use a torch to remove bubbles. Its advanced UV formula offers greater resistance to yellowing compared to conventional epoxy resins; however, the product is recommended for indoor use.

Main Features

  • Very low-viscosity, self-leveling epoxy resin
  • Suitable for castings of any thickness
  • Transparent and UV-resistant
  • Odorless, ideal for DIY use
  • Very long working time
  • Expels trapped air
  • Hard and durable, with almost zero shrinkage

Recommended Uses

  • Creating clear cast objects in molds (e.g. silicone molds), such as figurines, vases, artworks, decorative items, etc.
  • Encasing wood to create “floating in resin” wooden surfaces
  • Encasing inert materials such as stones, dried flowers, etc., for 3D creations
  • Jewelry making
  • Compatible with many materials such as cement, metal, glass, Plexiglass, and ceramics for creative applications

How to Use

The El Greco Liquid Glass 1:1 Casting Epoxy Resin is designed for easy use, even by beginners, to achieve professional-quality results. Users should familiarize themselves with the following instructions and strictly observe temperature, weighing, and mixing guidelines. Unsatisfactory results are almost always due to improper temperature, mixing, or ratio errors.

Before You Begin...

Ambient Temperature

This system is designed to work in environments between 15–30°C. For best results, maintain 20–25°C. Do not use the resin below 15°C, as curing will be very slow or incomplete, leaving the surface sticky.

Humidity

During curing, the resin may absorb moisture from the air. In high humidity (70% or higher), this can affect surface quality. Avoid using in humid conditions, especially at low temperatures, since drying slows down and leaves the uncured resin exposed longer to moisture.

Surface Preparation

The resin can be affected by any surface moisture. The surface must be dry and stable before application. This is especially important with natural materials like wood, cork, or concrete that retain moisture. Wood that is freshly cut or from humid environments (e.g., driftwood) must be thoroughly dried—this may take days or weeks indoors—before use. Moisture can cause incomplete curing or cloudiness in the resin.

Sealing

Required for all porous surfaces. When working on porous substrates (wood, concrete, or ceramics), seal first with El Greco water-based epoxy primer to prevent moisture rising. After 5 hours, you may proceed with casting.

Embedding

Any materials to be embedded (wood, leaves, etc.) must be completely dry. Porous objects should be sealed with primer and fully dried before casting.

Mixing Ratio 1:1 by Volume

Mix the El Greco Liquid Glass resin with the hardener (Part B) in a 1:1 volume ratio. Maintaining the correct ratio is essential. Incorrect ratios cause partial curing. Never add extra hardener to speed up curing.

Mixing Instructions

Accurately weigh and combine the resin and hardener (Parts A + B) in a flat-bottomed container and stir with a mixing stick for 3 minutes until the mixture is completely clear and uniform. Make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the container. For best results, transfer the mixture to a second clean container and stir for another 3 minutes with a new stick. This ensures all material is properly mixed.

Working Time

After mixing, you have 2–5 hours to work with the resin. After about 4 hours, it begins to thicken and becomes harder to use.

Curing Time

Initial curing takes 48 hours, after which the piece can be demolded. Full hardness is achieved after about 14 days at 23°C.

Temperature Effects

Epoxy resins are thermosetting, meaning their curing depends on temperature: higher temperatures speed up curing, while lower temperatures slow it down. Viscosity also changes—resin becomes thicker at lower temperatures and thinner at higher ones.

Mass Effect

The larger the poured volume, the faster the curing will occur. Large pours generate more heat as the mixture reacts.

Testing

It’s strongly recommended to perform small tests before the final project to observe curing behavior under different conditions (temperature, volume, materials embedded, etc.).

Trapped Air – Is a Heat Gun or Torch Necessary?

The advanced formulation of El Greco Liquid Glass 1:1 helps release trapped air from mixing. The resin usually self-degasses, leaving a clear, bubble-free finish. After mixing, let it rest for 10–15 minutes (or longer, since the working time is up to 5 hours) before pouring. If bubbles remain, gently pass a heat gun or small gas torch over the surface.

Safety Measures

Work in a well-ventilated area. Always wear protective gloves and eye protection when measuring, mixing, or pouring resin. Do not touch the resin surface without gloves until fully cured.

Mold or Wall Creation

This resin is very fluid and must be poured into a completely sealed mold or dam, or it will leak. When coating open surfaces (e.g., tables, countertops), create a perimeter wall to contain the resin using thick glossy cardboard and plastic tape, ensuring all edges are fully sealed.

Coloring the Resin

You can add special epoxy-compatible pigments to color the resin. Adding a small amount will create a transparent tinted effect (e.g., blue, green, purple, red, yellow). Only use pigments made for epoxy resins. You may also combine with glow-in-the-dark or glitter powders for creative effects.

Troubleshooting

  1. Cloudy or solidified resin in the bottle: The resin has crystallized due to low temperature. Warm it to about 50°C and it will return to liquid form.
  2. Not hardened after 48 hours: Incorrect mixing ratio and/or low temperature.
  3. Mixture overheats: High ambient temperature and/or large batch size.
  4. Trapped air bubbles: Mixing was too fast, preventing air from escaping.
  5. Sticky or greasy surface: High ambient humidity during curing.
  6. Resin not adhering to surface: The surface was not clean/degreased or contained moisture.
