Fabriano Watercolour Torchon paper pads and blocks are made from 300gsm paper containing 25% cotton, specifically designed for watercolour and other wet techniques. Their distinctive Torchon surface (extra rough) features a pronounced, rounded and irregular texture that creates characteristic pictorial effects while enhancing the natural movement and tonal variations of colours.
The strongly textured surface is particularly suitable for expressive painting, loose brushwork, colour washes, pigment granulation and textural effects. The peaks and depressions of the surface interact with colour and water, producing lively and distinctive results. For the same reason, Torchon paper is less suited to artwork requiring extremely fine lines and very small details.
The paper is made from a blend of 25% cotton and lignin-free cellulose. Internal and surface sizing controls the absorption of water and colour and provides reliable performance with wet techniques. Its substantial 300gsm weight provides increased resistance to moisture and helps reduce buckling while painting.
