Product Description
PL0030 is a high-quality platinum-based (addition-cured) two-component silicone suitable for demanding mold-making applications. It is a more advanced type of RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanising) silicone compared to condensation cure silicones. The presence of platinum serves as a catalyst. It can be pigmented with silicone dyes. PL0030 offers many advantages, including:
- Reproduces fine details with accuracy.
- Has very low shrinkage (≤0.1).
- Has high elasticity and tear resistance.
- Easy mixing ratio (1:1 by weight).
- Excellent resistance to polyurethane resins.
- Easy to use.
Recommended Uses
PL0030 silicone is used for creating molds that require precision, with complex parts and dimensional accuracy of the original. Completed silicone molds can be used for repeated casting of polyurethane resins, epoxy resins, plasters, cement, ceramic mixtures, chocolate (Food Safe with SGS certificate), etc.
Instructions for Use
PL0030 SILICONE IS A PRODUCT INTENDED ONLY FOR PROFESSIONALS, SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.
KEEP SILICONE AWAY FROM CHILDREN
Safety – Use silicone in a properly ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, gloves (not latex!), and a mask.
ONLY WEAR VINYL OR NITRILE GLOVES! LATEX GLOVES WILL PREVENT THE SILICONE FROM CURING!
Store and use silicone at room temperature (23°C). Higher temperatures will drastically reduce pot life and curing time. Storage at higher temperatures will reduce shelf life whether opened or sealed. These silicones have limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible.
Cure Inhibition
Addition-cure silicones may fail to cure or may cure very slowly when they come into contact with certain substances or materials. As a result, they may remain sticky and never fully harden. Some of these materials include: latex, condensation cure silicones (tin-based), clays or putties containing sulfur, some wooden surfaces, uncured polyester, epoxy- or urethane-based silicones. These may delay or prevent curing. If compatibility is uncertain, it is recommended to carry out a small-scale test. Apply a small amount of silicone—if it remains sticky after its designated curing time, then the material interferes with the silicone.
Application of Release Agent
• If silicone is used as a mold: When first cast, molds made from PL0030 silicone naturally exhibit release properties. Depending on what is cast inside, this release ability may wear off over time, and parts may start sticking. Applying a liquid release agent to the mold with a brush, such as Mold Release Agent code 1900090 before casting polyurethane, polyester, or epoxy resins helps protect the mold long-term and makes demolding easier (let the release agent dry for 30 minutes before casting). A release agent is not needed for wax or plaster.
• If silicone is used as a casting material inside a mold: Although a release agent is usually not necessary, it may make demolding easier. Apply a thin coat of release agent and allow it to dry for 30 minutes. If in doubt about compatibility, perform a small test first.
Mixing Ratios
The mixing ratio is 1A:1B by weight (equal amounts of components A and B by weight). Incorrect ratios may result in faster or slower curing and reduced mechanical properties. Do not attempt to accelerate curing by adding more catalyst (component B); addition-cure silicones do not work this way.
Mixing Instructions
Accurately weigh and mix only the amount of silicone you plan to use. Pour both parts into a clean container and stir with a wooden spatula for about 1–2 minutes until thoroughly blended, ensuring you scrape the sides and bottom of the container well.
Casting Instructions
For best results, pour silicone at the lowest point of the mold and let it rise slowly to cover the original. A steady, even flow will minimize air entrapment. Silicone should cover the original by at least 1 cm above its highest point.
Pot Life / Curing Time
Pot life and curing time vary significantly depending on ambient temperature. PL0030 can be used at ambient temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. For best results, ambient temperature should be at least 20°C.
Pot life: 2–5 minutes
Curing time: 2–3 hours
Transport and Storage
Silicone should be stored in tightly sealed containers during transport and storage. Store at room temperature (23°C) in a shaded place. When stored correctly, shelf life is 12 months. Storage at higher temperatures will reduce shelf life whether opened or sealed. These silicones have limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible. While it may still be usable after a longer time, performance may decline. Ensure containers are tightly sealed.
