Instructions
- Choose a well-ventilated area and place the object you wish to paint on a protective plastic sheet.
- Make sure that the surfaces to be painted are clean, dry, and free from loose particles or grease.
- Old wooden furniture may have been polished with wax. In this case, use steel wool with a little white spirit to clean the surface before painting. Previously painted wooden surfaces should ideally be sanded with P180 sandpaper before painting.
- Mask off any areas you do not want to paint using masking tape.
- Apply two coats of Chalk Effect using relatively quick movements from a distance of 10–15 cm. Spray first vertically and then horizontally (this counts as one coat). Wait 10 minutes before applying the next coat.
- For small objects or detailed areas, use the white spray nozzle (from a distance of 10 cm) included in the package. For larger surfaces and faster coverage, use the black nozzle (from a distance of 15 cm).
- The result of the above steps will be a luxurious and uniform matte surface. If you wish to create a distressed effect, wait one hour after painting, then use fine P180–220 sandpaper and gently sand the areas where you want to remove paint, revealing the bare wood underneath. This technique usually works best on edges and corners.
- You can also use two different colors, a light base color (e.g. Chalk Effect Pure White) and a second color on top. When sanding the outer color, the base color will be revealed instead of the wood.
- The Chalk Effect range provides a permanent finish that stands the test of time. For even greater durability, use the Chalk Varnish Matte Finish from the Chalk Effect range.
